    Year
    • 2020 I studied physics, chemistry, and biology independently at home during COVID-19 online learning, and enjoyed exploring the subjects at my own pace.

MITx Statistics and Data Science

I earned the MITx MicroMasters Program Credential in Statistics and Data Science, completing four online courses and a proctored capstone exam. The graduate-level coursework developed my skills in probability, statistics, data analysis, and machine learning.

PreMedSKL

I joined a medical enrichment program with a cohort of 50 students across Canada. For an ophthalmology case study, I read research papers, considered possible diagnoses, and helped develop a treatment plan as an educational exercise.

Independent biology study

I prepared independently for national biology competitions and completed Ontario Grade 12 Biology outside my regular school timetable.

IB extended essay

My interdisciplinary extended essay investigated the antioxidant effects of vitamin C in relation to hearing loss, combining a chemistry experiment with a biological context.

Oral-surgery shadowing

While shadowing oral surgery, I observed patient preparation, teamwork, communication, and the precision of the surgeon. The experience helped me see how technical skill and patient comfort work together.

A TKS hackathon

At a TKS hackathon, I stepped in to present our team's work after our selected speaker became overwhelmed. With five minutes to prepare and only one presenter allowed, I relied on the preparation I had already put into the project. The experience taught me to keep supporting the team even when someone else is chosen to lead.
